New Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Ga East Municipal Assembly (GEMA), Hon. Deborah Ampofo, on Monday, 11th March 2024, had her first experience of fieldwork as she joined a team of Heads of Departments on a monitoring exercise.
The Monitoring Exercise, organized by the Development Planning Unit of the Assembly, is done quarterly to assess the progress of or completed works to enable the Assembly to identify gaps in the execution of a project and whether quality and value-for-money outcomes have been achieved.
The Hon. MCE joined the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Mr. Nii-Amarh Ashitey, Presiding Member (PM) Hon Bright Paul Mintah, selected Heads of Departments, and Hon. Assembly Members whose jurisdiction projects were cited.
The Monitoring Exercise started on Monday, 11th March, and ended on Thursday, 14th March, 2024.
The first port of call was the Dome Market where Hon. Deborah Ampofo, was taken around to inspect the section engulfed in fire in December last year, then inspected the market sheds project and moved to engage the charcoal sellers who had taken over the road awarded for construction but preventing the contractor from executing the job as a result of the piling of charcoal on same.
She also visited the Day Care Centre and interacted with the caregivers.
From the Dome Market, the team moved to Taifa to inspect some structures that got burnt recently around the Taifa Community School, then to the Taifa-Burkina Market, Taifa Roman Catholic Basic Schools, and ended the Day at the Kwabenya-Atomic Basic School where they inspected the completed single-story, 6-unit classroom block.
On day two, the team inspected the Haatso Market Complex and Lorry Terminal project being executed by Agyacot and then moved to the Kwabenya-Atomic Market where they inspected various unauthorized developments on the market land and also interacted with leadership and traders.
The three were dedicated to engaging some Government Institutions and Agencies in the Municipality.
The first place visited was the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC), where the Director-General, Prof. Samuel Boakye Dampare, and his Management team welcomed and engaged the Hon MCE and her entourage in a brief meeting which largely centered on development cooperation and collaboration, particularly in the areas of agriculture and sanitation and developments on the Kwabenya-Atomic Market land.
The next stop was at the Kwabenya District of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) where the District Manager, Mr. Ahmed Kwesi Adams, and his Management team interacted with the Hon. MCE and her entourage, with the need for collaboration taking center stage in the discussions.
Then the team moved to the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) office at Atomic Roundabout where the Manager, Raymond Agyei Barnes, welcomed the Hon MCE and her team and made a presentation on the operations of the Scheme in the Municipality.
The last stop was at the Office of the Kwabenya District of the Ghana Water Company Limited where the District Manager, Mr. Godsway Parku, welcomed the team, along with some of his Management members, and briefed them on their operations.
On day four, the last day, the team visited the Abokobi Market and Lorry Station and interacted with the leadership of both facilities, ending the exercise with an inspection of the Paolo Mohenu Avenue (Abokobi-Assembly-Sesemi Road) and the Abokobi Senior High School project.
Hon. Deborah Ampofo, in the end, indicated her commitment towards building on what her predecessors had achieved and asked for the support of all to complete ongoing projects and initiate new ones.
