A team comprising teachers and students, from the Washington College, in the United States of America (USA), on Thursday, 14th March, 2024, visited the Ga East Municipality.
The students, six, were accompanied by a Professor, and led by Dr. Saint Ofosu-Koranteng, a Staff of the College, who were in the Country for a one-week educational trip.
They first called on the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Deborah Ampofo, at her office at Abokobi.
The Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Mr. Nii-Amarh Ashitey welcomed the team to the Hon. MCE's office and gave a brief background of the Ga East Municipal Assembly.
He further explained the system and structure of local government in Ghana and the operations of the Assembly.
The team interacted with the Assembly Officials, which included the Municipal Works Engineer (MWE), Peter Bah-Lano, and learned more about the Assembly.
The MCE, Hon. Deborah Ampofo, expressed appreciation to the team for choosing Ga East Municipality as their preferred destination and recommended a Sister-City and Educational Exchange program.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO), Okuyin Boaz Orlan-Hackman, then led the team to the Frederiksgave Plantation and Common Heritage Site (Museum), where they were welcomed by Nii Apain Akoto, Dzasetse of Sesemi, who conducted them on a tour around the facility.
Nii Akoto narrated the history of the Museum, stating that it once served as a shelter for slaves, and traced its origins back to a plantation farm, and its transformation over the years.
Talking about a river on top of the mountain behind the Museum, Nii Dzasetse recounted how it was named "Source of Hope" which symbolized resilience and perseverance amidst adversity.
He further spoke about the museum's pivotal role in the history of the Greater Accra Region, noting its construction in 1831 and subsequent commissioning in 1832.
