The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Ga East Municipal Assembly (GEMA), Hon. Deborah Ampofo, has assured the people of her desire to see the conditions of roads in the Municipality improve during her tenure.
She made this remark when she addressed the first Town Hall Meeting of the Assembly for this year, 2024, at the Asomdwe Ne Bohye Church at Ablorh Adjei.
The Town Hall Meeting which was used to present the Assembly's performance from its planned programs and budget for 2023 and what it intends to do this year, brought together stakeholders, including Traditional Leaders, Zongo Chiefs, Clergy, Imams, Assembly and Unit Committee Members, Heads of Departments, Market Women, Transport Unions, and scores of residents.
Hon. Deborah Ampofo thanked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for her appointment and promised to continue the good works done by her predecessors to advance the development of the Municipality.
She touched on some critical challenging areas of the Municipality, citing poor roads as the priority concern of the residents and assured them of her determination to push for improvement of the roads.
"I know the most critical developmental challenge facing this Municipality is poor road network. However, a lot is already being done to address this challenge. I want to assure all of you that with the opportunity given me, I will endeavor to reach out to the appropriate offices to ensure that I add up to the improvement of our road conditions", she stated.
The Hon. MCE urged ratepayers to cooperate with and pay promptly to Adro M, the company contracted to collect both Property Rates and Business Operating Permits (BOPs) to enable the Assembly to raise more revenue for the development of the Municipality.
She also appealed to the citizenry to be peace-loving, seek each other's interest, and help preserve our democracy by going about their activities before, during, and after December's general elections responsibly to maintain the peace of the nation.
The Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Mr Nii-Amarh Ashitey, commended the efforts of some Residents' Associations involved in various self-help projects, noting their significant contributions to citizen participation in the development of the Municipality.
The Municipal Planning Officer (MPO), Mr. Daniel Baah Tenkorang, and Municipal Budget Analyst (MBA), Ms. Benedicta Obeng Nyarko, took turns to present the performance of the Assembly in 2023 and the programs and budget for 2024.
The Assembly generated total revenue of 21.09 million cedis from the projected 23.77 million cedis and utilized 20.68 million cedis for various programs and projects.
Internally Generated Fund (IGF) realized in 2023 was 8.89 million cedis as against the projected budget of 9.01 million cedis with the rest of the funds coming from Central Government and Donor Partners.
There were also presentations made by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Public Utilities and Regulatory Commission (PURC), and HIV/AIDS Desk at the Municipal Health Directorate.
The NHIS officials registered and renewed cards for some of the participants while the Ga East Municipal Hospital checked their Blood Pressure.
