The Chief of Papao, in the Haatso Electoral Area, Hon. Samuel Nii Annang Ofori, has been elected the new President of the Ga East Chiefs' Association at a special meeting held at the Conference Room of the Ga East Municipal Assembly (GEMA), Abokobi, on Tuesday, 20th February, 2024.
The election, conducted by the Municipal Electoral Commission and supervised by the Municipal Electoral Officer, Ms. Janet Koranteng, saw six (6) other members elected into various positions.
These were Vice President, Nii Manle I, Chief of Teiman, Executive Secretary, Daniel Nii Apain Akoto, Sesemi Dzasetse, Treasurer, Nii Awudu Kwei, Chief of Ayi-Mensah, Financial Secretary, Nii Lartey Sobbley, Boi Elder, while Nii Kwao Oboabasa II and Nii Amarh Sogbla IV were elected Trustees.
The outgoing President, Hon. Samuel Nii Adjetey Mohenu, Chief of Abokobi and Government Appointee of the Ga East Municipal Assembly, congratulated the newly elected executive, emphasizing the importance of their roles in facilitating peace and unity among the people and the development of the communities.
He expressed firm belief in the new President and the executive body to continue the work and urged the people to support them in their tenure to achieve greater success.
"I have no doubt that my brother Nii Annang Ofori and the new executive will continue from where we have ended and I have advised him to continue to pursue unity amongst the Chiefs and the well-being of the people", he stated.
"We have agreed and like to live in unity among ourselves and I will do my best to support him" Hon. Nii Adjetey Mohenu added.
The newly elected President, Hon. Samuel Nii Annang Ofori, also a former Government Appointee and Presiding Member of the Assembly, assured of his readiness to work with his team to foster peace, unity and enhance their relationship with the Assembly to bring about development in the communities.
"Is about commitment, coming together and this will enable us develop our communities. We will work to improve the relationship between us and the Assembly to ensure our people get what is due them in terms of development", he remarked.
Hon. Nii Annang Ofori also indicated his resolve to bring other Chiefs on board to form a greater force to facilitate the development of the Municipality.
The Deputy Director, Mr. Dey Kukubor, who represented the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Mr. Nii-Amarh Ashitey, commended the Ga East Chiefs' Association for their support and wise counsel to the Assembly and congratulated the elected executive, urging them to continue to support the Association's growth and development.
The Ga East Chiefs' Association was established in 2004, having been carved out of the Ga Rural Chiefs' Association in the Ga District of the Greater Accra Region.
Hon. Nii Annang Ofori becomes the second President after Hon. Nii Adjetey Mohenu since the formation of the Association.
