The Ga East Municipal Assembly (GEMA) has donated modern office furniture to the Kwabenya District Police Command to enhance their service delivery.
The brief presentation ceremony took place at the forecourt of the Assembly on Tuesday, 15th August 2023.
This forms part of the Assembly’s support to the Ghana Police Service to enhance their operations in the Municipality.
The items, which included 5 armchairs, 2 Executive swivel chairs, and 2 office desks, were purchased from the Assembly’s Internally Generated Fund (IGF).
The Local Governance Act, 2016, Act 936, requires all District Assemblies to cooperate and support security agencies within their jurisdictions in the performance of their mandatory role of ensuring peace and crime-free environment.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Elizabeth Kaakie Mann, presenting the items, acknowledged the significant role of the Police Service in the development of the nation as a whole and the Municipality in particular, hence informing the decision to procure this office furniture for the Kwabenya District Police Command.
“The Assembly plans to support other Police Stations within the Municipality as its resources improve."
In receiving the items, the Police Commander for the Kwabenya District, Supt. Kombat Damontin, expressed his profound gratitude to the MCE and the Assembly for providing this furniture to them. He also made it known that he never expected this gesture even though he had previously pleaded with the Hon. MCE to support them.
Commenting on the crime rate in the Municipality, Supt. Kombat disclosed that the incidence of crime has reduced drastically because the Assembly supports them whenever they are in need and call on them.
“Personally, I never expected this to happen because deep down in my heart, it wasn’t going to happen, but you have surprised me. Crime in the area has reduced, all thanks to you for resourcing us with everything we need such as repairing vehicles when they break down etc. Due to this, we can patrol in the Municipality 24/7”.
Among the officials at the presentation were the Municipal Cordinating Director (MCD), Mr. Nii-Amarh Ashietey and other Heads of Departments of the Assembly.
