GA EAST MCE, EDUCATION DIRECTOR TOUR BASIC SCHOOLS TO ASSESS STATE OF TEACHING AND LEARNING
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Elizabeth Kaakie Mann, has challenged the Education Directorate to ensure improvement in teaching and learning in the various schools as well as performance of pupils in the BECE.
Hon. Kaakie Mann made the call when she went on an inspection tour of some public basic schools in the Municipality on Thursday, 16th March, 2023.
The Municipal Chief Executive who was accompanied by the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Mr. Emmanuel Kwame Kungi, Municipal Director of Education (MDE), Mr. Eric Sey, and Head of Education Management Information System (EMIS), Dr. Stephen Arthur, among other officials from both the Assembly and Education Directorate.
They visited Abokobi Presby and Ashongman Presby Cluster of Schools on day one of the exercise.
Hon. Elizabeth Kaakie Mann indicated that she had learnt of a sharp decline in the performances of pupils in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the past two years.
She epressed worrying concern about the situation and charged the Education Directorate to do more to improve as Ga East for a long period had always performed excellently in the Regional and National ratings.
She assured the Directorate of the Assembly and Government's commitment towards providing more infrastructure and learning materials to help enhance teaching and learning in the schools.
Hon. Kaakie Mann made known that all abandoned GETFund projects had been collated and submitted at the Secretariat and expected to be acted upon soon.
The Municipal Education Director (MDE), Mr. Eric Sey, who has been at post for only a month, assured the Hon. MCE that he is result-oriented and was poised to work assiduously together with his team to turn the situation around.
After interacting with the Heads and Teachers, the Hon. MCE spent some time with the new entrants at the nursery and kindergarten levels where she gave them various items including writing and reading books, bags, cups, toys, and biscuits, among others, as part of the package for My First Day At School observed earlier in the Municipality.
