GEMANEWS: Thursday, 3rd February, 2022; Dome
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Ga East Municipal Assembly (GEMA), Hon. Elizabeth Kaakie Mann, has dispelled the motion that the "Operation Clean Your Frontage" campaign, initiated by the Regional Minister, Hon. Henry Quartey, is a “nine day wonder”. She made this remark on a live show on Original TV at the Dome Market.
On Thursday, 3rd February, 2022, as part of the activities to increase awareness on the OCYF campaign, the Client Service and Public Relations Unit of the Assembly, in collaboration with Original TV, organized a live telecast programme in the Dome Market.
The TV's flagship programme, Nsem Asisi", saw a makeshift studio set up in the market which engaged leadership and traders, including the Market Queenmother, Madam Felicia Naa Karley Amui, and her deputy, Naa Ofosua, participate in discussions on general sanitation and development in the market, with special focus on the "Operation Clean Your Frontage".
Hosted by Akosua Asabea Asomaning, the programme primarily focused on the enforcement of "Operation Clean Your Frontage", and had the MCE, Hon. Hon. Kaakie Mann, who had on Tuesday, 1st February, 2022, led a float from Abokobi to Dome, told the host, Akosua Asabea Asomaning, that the project has come to stay and any negative mindset about its longevity must be discarded.
"Operation Clean Your Frontage is not a nine day wonder. It will continue for a very long time and would not be short lived", she stated.
Hon Kaakie Man seized the opportunity to applaud the people of the Ga East Municipality and also the market women at Dome Market and the markets in the Municipality for swiftly embracing the campaign.
She reiterated her earlier caution that the campaign is non-partizan and that anyone who falls foul of the laws would be prosecuted accordingly without any consideration or favouritism.
Mr. Charles Ampomah Asaabre, the Municipal Environmental Health Officer (MEHO), also outlined the steps being taken to enforce the Bye-Laws.
He indicated the Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) have been zoned and assigned the responsibility of ensuring compliance in their respective jurisdictions by monitoring and summoning offenders.
Mr. Asabre stated that enough public education has been done and it is expected that the residents and business operators will keep their surroundings clean to stay away from prosecution.
The Dome Market Queenmother, Madam Felicia Karley Amui, and her Deputy, Naa Ofosua, both pledged their support to the OCYF programme, stating that they will keep educating the traders and also monitor their activities in this regard.
The Head of Client Service Unit and Public Relations Officer for the Ga East Municipal Assembly (GEMA), Okunyin Boaz Orlan-Hackman, noted that his outfit, with support from the Assembly and both local and external media networks, will continue to sensitize the public on the Bye-Laws governing the OCYF campaign.
He disclosed that the Public Relations and Complaints Committee (PRCC) of the Assembly has put together a programme to send the message to churches, mosques, markets, lorry stations, and other public places to increase awareness on the OCYF campaign.
The PRO also indicated that as part of the awareness creation efforts of the Assembly on the OCYF, over 2000 flyers containing the Bye-Laws have been printed and distributed while 10 large-size banners have been printed and being hanged at vantage points in all the 10 Electoral Areas.
